About the Flybe Training Academy
The Flybe Training Academy, part of Europe’s most successful regional airline Flybe, is located at Exeter International Airport in the UK. The new modern, international facility includes a flight simulator complex, Cabin Door trainer, 26 purpose-built classrooms and an integrated Apprentice workshop allowing Flybe to offer an increased range of training to third party customers worldwide.
Flybe says “We are delighted to have opened our own state of the art Training Academy for the benefit of all our staff: it will be an important milestone in contributing to alleviating the crucial need for skills development in the South West through the delivery of economically sustainable industry and sector qualifications”.
The Flybe Training Academy offers a wide range of Pilot, Technical, Cabin Crew and Customer Service courses to airlines across the world, as well as a range of non-aviation training to other individuals and organisations in the South West.
In June 2007, Flybe was the only UK airline to sign the Government Skills pledge and it was shortly after this that the airline announced its intention to replace its current training facilities with its own Training Academy.
In September 2009 the company announced its successful bid for £4.3 million financial support from the Learning and Skills Council’s (LSC) new Capital Specialisation Fund (CSF) process. The much awaited decision unlocked the South West RDA’s contribution of £2.8 million meaning that construction on the £24 million Training Academy project could go ahead.
More than a third of Flybe’s 3000-plus employees are based at the airline’s Exeter headquarters. In January 2008, the company became one of only three companies in the UK to have achieved the high standards required to become an Awarding Body for Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). As a result, Flybe is now able to award its own certificates, from Level 2 (GCSE at A* - C) right up to Level 4 (degree level) for cabin crew and engineering programmes.
